Special Outreach prog held in Mon district

Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): The Directorate of Field Publicity under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting organized a special outreach programme on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and PMJDY at Totok Chingha village under Mon district on March 21 in collaboration with District Child Protection Unit Mon.  

Khanjai Konyak, Ahng & Chairman Village Council, gracing the event as chief guest viewed that interior communities in Mon and Tuensang require such programme to be updated on the various schemes so that their living conditions are alleviated.   Lhouzoto Savi, Field Publicity Office in-charge Mon, in the keynote address highlighted the various schemes.  

Under the scheme of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, he shared that a girl child can open a bank account in any Post Office in the country from day one of her birth through her parents. This scheme was launched in 2014 by the President of India.  

The objectives are prevention of gender biased sex selective elimination, ensuring survival and protection of girl child, and ensuring education and participation of the girl child. This scheme provides higher interest earning. However, there is a certain limit to the amount of money which can be deposited in a year. Also, on attaining 18 years of age, the girl shall renew her account.  

As such, Savi encouraged the parents to make the girl child avail the scheme by getting more information from the Child Protection department.  

Leaders of Block Level Federation (BLF) participated in the programme which was chaired by C. Lokpon Konyak, Head Teacher, Government Middle School.  

Resource persons were Zamyon Konyak, Finance Secretary, Block Level Federation and Rajuselie Lhousa, District Coordinator (FI), NRLM Mon, while moderator was Sangke Konyak, woman activist. Vote of thanks was delivered by Tahmao, women leader.
