Dimapur, October 29 (MExN): A special raid is being conducted to keep a check on theft of power and illegal consumers in Dimapur.
Er Y Akito Sema, Executive Engineer Dimapur Electrical Division informed on Friday that special raids are being conducted on defaulting consumers for non-payment of electricity bill, theft of power through hooking, tampering of energy meters and pilferage of energy meters at various locations under Dimapur Electrical Division with the assistance of the Administration and police personnel.
The raids are as per the action plan of the special Revenue team and as discussed in the joint meeting with District Administration and Commissioner of police, he stated. All electricity consumers of all kinds of categories have been reminded to clear their outstanding bills and to desist from the illegal activities in order to avoid inconvenience.
“As per Indian Electricity Act 2003 Part XIV, Section135:- Any person who uses power illegally shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine or with both,” the department cautioned.
