Dimapur, December 14 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) operated two special trains from Guwahati to Dimapur to ferry passengers stranded in Guwahati and other railway stations of Assam due to short-termination and cancellation of many trains as a result of prevailing law and order situation over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

Two special trains ferried the passengers from Guwahati to Dimapur on December 12 and 14 while two other special trains were operated to Furkating and Dibrugarh from Guwahati on December 13, informed a press release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer, Subhanan Chanda. About 2400 stranded passengers were reached to their destinations since December 12.

“The last few days of disturbances in train services had left several passengers stranded at Guwahati and other stations of Assam as many trains had to be short-terminated and cancelled,” it said.

The CPRO further informed that there are about six to eight hundred passengers still stranded at Guwahati who would be carried to their destinations by Saturday night or on Sunday morning

However, owing to the prevailing law-and-order situation, NFR has to cancel the following short distance train, the CRPO added.

Meanwhile, issuing travel advisory for commuters, the Nagaland Government on December 12 established help-lines and designated officials to assist “any Nagaland bound passenger who is stranded in Guwahati at the Railway Station/bus terminus or other parts of Assam" due to the ongoing CAB stir.

The Dimapur Police also has set up a Joint Control Room at Commissioner of Police Office for assistance headed by Naieem Mustafa, IPS, DCP Zone-I. The Joint Control Room can be contacted at 7085055050 for any related queries.

On Friday, a message was also shared on social media informing that the Nagaland Police has established an assistance booth at Guwahati Railway Station near Platform no 1 to help stranded Nagaland-bound passenger. It can be contacted at 9862010280.
