Tuensang, July 16 (DIPR): Special tree plantation drive was held at Tuensang town on July 16 at Loyem Memorial Football Ground, Tuensang Town which was jointly organised by Tuensang Town Council, All Ward Union Tuensang Town and Chambers of Commerce Tuensang Town. The plantation drive was held under the theme ‘Clean and Green Tuensang’ Town with DFO Tuensang, Dr. Sentitula IFS as the guest of honour.
Speaking at the programme Dr. Sentitula appealed to all the members present to keep Tuensang green and clean for a better tomorrow. She said that air pollution, land erosion and droughts are the causes of deforestation which should be stopped by planting more trees. Nagas are dependent on forest products and if we destroy our natural resources then we lost our identity, she said. Forest provides us many things directly or indirectly so we should uphold this symbiosis between men and forest. She further stated that political will is much needed for increase in reserved forest in town areas. She urged the gathering to join hands to keep Tuensang clean in the coming days.
Invocation prayer was pronounced by Yongkai Phom, Pastor Phom Baptist church and welcome address was delivered by T. Nchumbemo Odyuo, ADC Tuensang. Short speeches were given by Khoni Chang, Head GB, Tuensang Town, Puran Chand Gupta, Vice-president Chamber of Commerce, Tuensang Town. Vote of thanks was delivered by Ato Chang President Tuensang Town All Ward Union. Altogether 400 saplings were planted.
