My dear Naga people,
I salute all of you and have the great privilege of once again addressing our Nation on the occasion of 14th August, Naga Independence Day. This historic day was inaugurated 64 years ago by NNC to mark the birth of a separate Nation of our own and our announcement was duly acknowledged by the United Nations. Therefore, the NNC, representing the whole of the Naga people, celebrates this National Day of ours every year in remembrance of the historic declaration of the Naga Nation in 1947.
But until now the Govt. of India and the Burma (Myanmar) Military Junta, instead of recognizing the sovereign right of the Nagas, have on the contrary suppressed and oppressed the Naga Rights of Freedom by military force for more than six decades. This is a disgrace and a blot on the images of the governments concerned and on the global community and is in complete violation of United Nations' Conventions on sovereignty and human rights.
Also today I am sad to admit that we the Naga National Workers have become the victims of our own internal squabbles and this has made our struggle for permanent peace and freedom a prostracted and deeply painful process. And in reality our political future has become very bleak and dark because of our own blunders, killing, divisions, hatred, stubbornness, and lack of forgiveness. We ourselves are entirely to blame for this.
In spite of hard work at Home and the support of International Bodies for reconciliation and unity among Naga political factions, National Workers have become further divided because of stubbornness, hatred, and, worst of all, revenge killings among themselves.
The National Workers have committed sin after sin in the Homeland and are therefore hated by our people now. This is a disgraceful turn of events and our future has become very uncertain in this time of turmoil. The present situation is tragic and extremely serious. We, the National Workers have to feel ashamed of ourselves and repent before God and the people.
Let us the National Workers renew and refresh our commitment to the Freedom of the Nagas and change our mindset for the sake of our people at large. Time is running out, let us act fast for Naga freedom and betterment of our people; we are about to be condemned completely by our compatriots and are in danger of totally losing their support. The people in the Homefront are really fed up with the National Workers because of our undesirable activities in the name of Freedom. May the Good Lord forgive and change the National Workers for his Glory.
In reality, if the National Workers do not reconcile and unite in reality and in true spirit, the Naga Peoples' future is very uncertain. Therefore, the NNC, being the Parent Body of the Nagas, appeals in sincerity and humility in the name of God to all the National Political Groups to forgive each other and unite in the very best interest of our people and Nation.
The NNC welcomes and supports fully the stand taken by the Baptist World Alliance of 120 countries for Naga Reconciliation. However, we stress that, at Home, the Forum which is working for inclusiveness must bring all the Groups together to achieve Naga National Unity. No one should be left out of this crucial process.
The NNC also appreciates and welcomes all those friendly countries who speak and support the Nagas.
The NNC will stand up for the interest of those countries who support and work for the Naga cause for freedom.
The NNC has been closely watching political developments in neighbouring Asian Countries. And what is emerging gradually is in the favour of the North East people. We hope for a new political dimension in the Region for the good of us all.
On this National Day, as one of the most senior National Workers alive today, I wish to say without any hesitation that I really wish to see Naga National Workers reconciled and united for Freedom of the Nagas.
This is a prayer to God Almighty to help and fulfill this sincere aim for his Glory.
