Dear Naga People,
I humbly stand here once again because of the political necessity to address our Naga people on this historic Naga National Plebiscite Day of 16th May 2011. I salute each and every Naga on this significant occasion as we remember and celebrate our National Day. May the good Lord heal and bless our Nation.
The Nagas on this Day sixty years ago conducted the Naga National Plebiscite according to proper international democratic norms to demonstrate to the World in general and the two neighbouring Nations, India and Burma, in particular, that Nagas are a totally Independent people and Nation. And the result of the Referendum showed overwhelming and incontrovertible support from a massive 99.9 percent of the people for an Independent Naga Nation.
But today I am very sorry to say that the Nagas are the victims of their own foolish political blunders and the fragmentation of our stand for National Unity. These mistakes have led to further division and much bloodshed among our people. Therefore, because of our serious political errors and internecine strife, the road to our destination becomes longer and longer. And we will still have to travel a very long way if we continue this pattern of division and disunity. We may not even achieve the Freedom which is our right and destiny.
Today, I must say without hesitation and shame that the Parent Body (NNC) of the Nagas has been further weakened by members who are only seeking to serve their own selfish ends and vested interests. This is a big shame for the NNC in particular and the Nagas in general. We have become a real laughing stock in the Homeland and abroad in front of our well wishers and supporters.
And there is still no resolution in sight. Instead a shameful Paper War is going on. This is disastrous for the NNC and I apologize to the Naga people and the well-wishers and supporters. I also appeal for calm among the NNC members and urge them to treat the wounds before the condition becomes incurable.
It is also really surprising to see how a simple and ignorant person within the organisation has become a vessel filled with hatred and selfishness. And the most extraordinary thing I have seen during the 55 years of my National Service is that an unqualified simpleton has harboured and pursued aspirations to become the head of the NNC set up. This person has made us a laughing stock at this critical moment of our Naga Political history. Let us not see any more shameful incidents like this to tarnish the image of our NNC, which was set up with the noble aim of building a good future for all Nagas.
The NNC feels that, if National Unity is too difficult to achieve, then the NNC will certainly go for broader unity that is beyond the Naga boundaries of the North East because too many Nagas have become stubborn, arrogant, boastful, selfish, hate-filled, self-centred, and revengeful. May the Living God heal the Naga people.
Today, I will also say that we cannot and should not blame anybody but ourselves for our problems, which have been brought about by our own blunders and sins. We say that we are believers in Jesus Christ but we are worse than people of other faiths. We believe in the Holy Bible but our living and practice is opposite to its teachings. We speak about sinners and salvation but we are the worst sinners at this stage of our political history.
Let us put our heads together and find a solution before it is too late. Otherwise, our future is at stake and doom will be upon us if we don’t act immediately for the salvation of our land and people for God’s glory.
The modern world is changing very fast and danger is looming everywhere. We have to reform ourselves because we cannot progress if we continue this selfish and hate-filled behaviour. Failure to reform could be disastrous for the Nagas. If we keep on sinning, the very purpose of the living God may not be fulfilled for the Nagas. Before the great doom day comes, let us wake up and shine for the Glory of the Living God.
It is very unfortunate but I must say that there are some vested interests in Naga society who have raised the idea of more statehood again to undermine the Naga struggle for freedom. These people will be responsible for further dividing the people and damaging the struggle for freedom.. This should be stopped immediately and totally.
I, on behalf of the NNC, welcome the fast changing political scenarios in the North East, especially the new political developments in neighboring countries which will favour the Nagas in particular in political matters at this stage. May the new political developments take place soon for the betterment of the Naga people and freedom.
May the world at large favour and support the Naga people and its freedom. May we reach our destination sooner than later. May India and Burma understand the realities soon for the sake of real and permanent peace in the South East Asia Region.
