The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) under Mission Vatsalya, Department of Social Welfare, Tuensang, organised a Children’s Sports Day on November 15 as part of the Child Rights Week 2025 celebration. The event brought together children from Kohdi Children Home and Bethel Children Home at the Sao Chang College ground for a day of games, learning, and encouragement.
Addressing the participants, A Yanthriba Sangtam of DCPU said education and sports must go hand in hand to ensure the holistic development of children. Sangtam noted that sports not only enhance cognitive growth but also build essential life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience, while promoting physical and mental well-being.

He encouraged the children to participate wholeheartedly, emphasizing that sports should be viewed beyond winning and losing. “Sports is about personal development, the experience of playing, and the lessons you learn as you participate,” he said.
Earlier, the programme began with a blessing pronounced by R. Throngji Yimchunger, superintendent of Bethel Children Home.
Children took part in a variety of games, including tug of war, water games, spoon race, penalty shootout, blink game, and volleyball, with the event aimed at fostering joy, confidence, and camaraderie among the young participants.
