Dimapur, August 21 (MExN): A state sports activity themed “Sports for votes” was conducted as part of a Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme at St John College, Dimapur, and Dimapur Government College on August 16 and 17 and August 19 and 20, respectively. As per a DIPR report, this initiative was organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Office, Dimapur, in collaboration with the Nagaland Sports Association.
Over 600 students from both colleges participated in the event, which was aimed at promoting electoral awareness among young voters. The students competed in the EPIC (Electoral Participation and Inclusive Citizenship) tournament, engaging in various games such as futsal, tug of war, three-legged races, and sack races.
In addition to the sports activities, voter facilitation booths and EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) demonstration centers were set up to assist and educate the students about the voting process. The sports activities were led by Christine Imlikokla, President, Nagaland Sports Association, ensuring the event was both competitive and informative.
Zakabo V Rotokha, NCS ADC & SVEEP Nodal Officer, Dimapur, stated that the sports event generated importance of voter education, and fostered a sense of civic responsibility among the students.
