Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today maintained that sports have the power to unify people.

Addressing the inaugural function of the 55th meet of Dihoma Village Youth & Sports Organization (DVYSO) at Dihoma village under Kohima district, Rio said that sports bring the people together.

Rio, who is also president of Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) admitted that the sports platform build the spirit of oneness.
In sports, he said, team spirit always get rewarded, adding that the both big and small nation compete for top honours within the same sport rules and regulations, which represents the prettiness of sports.

Stating that there is no dearth of talent among the Naga youth in the field of games and sports, he challenged the sports lovers to maintain discipline, stick to a healthy diet and also stay connected with the modern methods of training to compete with others.

In today’s competitive world, he said, one’s physical strength and state of mind alone will not fetch the desired result, and challenged the Naga youth to prioritize their approach in acquiring the basic techniques to excel.

Appreciating the Nagaland team for bringing home 79 medals at the 2nd North East Olympic Games 2022, he also told the achievers not to be complacent but to improve further and bring greater laurel and glory to the state.

The state government has been trying its best to put in place better infrastructure and coaching facilities, he said.

Meanwhile, Rio called upon the people of Nagaland to avail the package of Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme as well as Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative.

He said the registration process for both the scheme is going on full swing across the state.

Chief Minister lauded Dihoma villagers for their active involvement in livestock and agriculture activities for sustainable livelihood.
He told the progressive farmers to maximize the agri and allied activities to boost the rural economy.

Earlier, Khriekethozo Lhoungu, president, Officers Krotho, Dihoma informed that Dihoma generates around Rs. 25 lakh every year through livestock (Piggery) farming.

Through Sweet Orange cultivation, the village also fetches Rs. 20 lakh every year, including Local poultry farming at Rs. 5 lakh and vegetables and other horti produces at Rs. 10 lakh per year.

Lhoungu informed that jungle burning has been prohibited since 2008 and the village have also been declared as organic village in 2015.

Further, he informed that Dihoma village will be celebrating 100 years of Christianity by 2023.

Northern Angami Public Organization (NAPO) president Zeneituo Yano also delivered short speech and expressed happiness over the prevailing peaceful atmosphere and unity within the Northern Angami area.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Er Vipulhou Lhoungu, additional director, technical education Nagaland while Rev. Vilazhii Lhoungu, pastor CRC Dihoma invoked God’s blessing.

Head GB Raneilie Kesitsu and friends performed folk song while Neingusalie Yano presented a special number entitled “The Impossible Dream.”

DVYSO president Dievi Yano delivered presidential address while Dihoma Village Council chairman Thepfiineilhou Yashii shared greetings.

DVYSO games and sports secretary Medozhazo Tsiikrii administered oath to seven participating khels.

Nagaland Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Advisor, Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, Nagaland Technical Education and Elections, Advisor Medo Yhokha and MLA Keneizhakho Nakhro also graced the inaugural function.

The sports meet, to continue till December 30, will be marked by track and events, Table Tennis, carom, chess, football and volleyball.
