SRGBA, SRSU & STL seek tax exemption for development projects in Satoi Range

Zunheboto, September 30 (MExN): Stakeholder bodies in Satoi Range have appealed to Naga Political Groups (NPGs) to grant total exemption from taxation on development funds and infrastructural projects in the region, particularly the long-awaited Zhekiye-Satoi road project.

The joint appeal was made by the Satoi Range GBs’ Association (SRGBA), Satoi Range Students’ Union (SRSU), Satoi Range Sumi Totimi Loka (STL) and other stakeholders, who said deductions from development funds could affect the implementation of projects in the remote region.

In a joint press release issued on September 30, the groups said Satoi Range in the eastern part of Zunheboto district had remained relatively underdeveloped due to difficult terrain and inadequate infrastructure, citing  gaps in road connectivity, healthcare, education and other basic services.

The commencement of the Zhekiye-Satoi road construction and other development initiatives had raised expectations among residents, the release stated, stressing that effective utilisation of sanctioned funds was essential for the projects to achieve their intended objectives.

Accordingly, the SRGBA, SRSU and STL appealed to NPGs and other concerned stakeholders to keep development funds free from taxation and other financial deductions and allow the projects to proceed without interference or disruption.

At the same time, they also placed responsibility on contractors, executing agencies and government departments to ensure that the works conform to approved designs, specifications, quality standards and contractual obligations.

The trio also cautioned against compromise in quality, unnecessary delays, substandard execution or unauthorised deviations would not be viewed lightly.

The stakeholders said they would monitor the progress and quality of the projects and continue to represent the interests of the people of Satoi Range.

They also appealed to the State Government, district administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for uninterrupted execution of the projects.

“The people of Satoi have waited for decades for meaningful connectivity and development. This opportunity must not be compromised. Development funds must reach development works, and development works must reach the people,” the SRGBA, SRSU and STL stated in a joint press release.
