Chennai, December 12 (MExN): The 38th convocation of Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) celebrated academic excellence today, with 1,680 graduates receiving degrees across medical, engineering, and management disciplines.
A highlight of the ceremony was the address by Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, who shared three key scientific lessons to help students excel in their fields.
Dr. Behari, also the President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board under the National Medical Commission, awarded 74 gold medals to meritorious students. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of incremental contributions in innovation, disciplined time management, and resilience through consistent training.
He illustrated the value of incremental contributions with the example of the rainbow, whose scientific understanding evolved over time through dedicated research. "Every discovery builds on the work of others," he said, urging students to pursue their ideas with enthusiasm to benefit humanity.
Drawing on the mathematical principles of physics, he highlighted the importance of setting realistic, self-imposed deadlines. "Deadlines foster motivation and help in completing tasks effectively," he stated.
Dr. Behari also delved into neuroscience's recent findings about 'calcium-mediated dendritic action potentials (dCaAPs),' explaining how the brain’s responses to stress can be managed through repetitive training. "Constant practice in challenging situations helps suppress emotional reactions like anger and anxiety while promoting logical thinking," he said.
The Chancellor of SRIHER, V.R. Venkataachalam, conferred degrees and certificates during the ceremony. Vice Chancellor Dr. Uma Sekar highlighted SRIHER’s commitment to advancing education in her address. She announced the introduction of two MD programs in laboratory and geriatric medicine, alongside several new courses aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, including Master of Social Work, M.Sc. Physician Associate, and B.Sc. Endoscopy Technology.
The event saw participation from senior academic leaders, including Pro Chancellor R.V. Sengutuvan, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Mahesh Vakamudi, and other deans and officials.
The convocation ended with a call to action for graduates to embody the lessons shared, using their education to contribute meaningfully to society.
