Tuensang, March 21 (MExN): Sao Chang College, Tuensang, commemorated International Day of Forests and World Poetry Day on March 21 at the college conference hall.
World poetry day was observed by the Department of English and 2nd semester students of the college attended the programme. According to a press release from the college Media Cell, Associate Professor Dr Santosh Kumar Singh briefed the gathering about the significance of World Poetry Day and concluded his talk with a recitation of his original poem.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Soyimla Akum, Assistant Professor & Organizing Secretary for the open poetry writing competition to mark the day. Earlier, Akyuba Sangtam, HoD (English) encouraged more participants to come forward for participation during any literary competitions and also declared the winners of the competition. The winners include Tanghiu S (BA 4th Semester) who bagged the first position; Ayingshila Y Yimchunger (BSc 4th Semester) who came second; and Naroyemla Chang (BA 6th Semester) in third position.
During the International Day of Forests which was organised by the Ministerial Staff of Sao Chang College, the welcome address was given by Longtichang Tzudir, Vice-Principal, Sao Chang College. Resource person Er Nabum Tonbou Chang, Assistant Mechanical Engineer, PWD (Mechanical), Tuensang, spoke on how the educated young college students should realise the evil effects of deforestation and should preserve the forests leaving a rich legacy for their future generation, the release stated.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Senior Head Assistant Sashi Jamir, it added.
