Students from Sophia College, Mumbai along with Kohima Science College students at the valedictory function of the SSEP 2020 held in Kohima on February 15.

 

Kohima, February 18 (MExN): A valedictory function marking the successful completion of the 3rd Solidarity Students’ Exchange Programme (SSEP 2020) was held on February 15 at Hotel Eastgate, Kohima. SSEP 2020 was organized between Sophia College for Women, Mumbai and Kohima Science College, Jotsoma from February 9 to 16. 


The visiting team from Mumbai comprising of eight BSc 2nd year students and two chaperones, interacted with students & faculty of Kohima Science College, visiting classrooms and laboratories of various departments.
As per a press release received here, they also visited heritage sites in Kohima and several villages nearby such as Kigwema, Khonoma, Viswema etc and interacted with the local people.


The students participated in interactive sessions covering a wide variety of topics including “Naga Culture Today” by Theja Meru Advisor, TaFMA at the RCEMPA, “Naga Textiles” with Dr Theyiesinuo Keditsu, “Coffee-Cultivation & Careers” with Lichan Humtsoe (Founder & CEO Été Coffee), “Naga school children grow organic mid-day meals” with Keneisenu Vitsu (Head teacher, GMS, Viswema), “Working with Naga farmers & Women street vendors” with Neichute Duolo & Neikule Duolo (Entrepreneurs Associates), and “Story of Youthnet” at Made in Nagaland complex which gave them an insight into Naga culture and way of life.


The students also attended “Beloved”, a concert by Yamaha Artiste, Nise Meruno and Nourhe Khate, followed by a personal interaction with Meruno at the Vivor Hotel.


The visit to Directorate of IT and Science, arranged by MLA & Advisor, IT, Science & Technololgy, NRE, Nagaland, Mmhonlumo Kikon, and conducted by Dr Nesa, made an impact on the students who left Nagaland with a keen interest in future collaborative research work, the release said.


The Solidarity Students Exchange Program, started in 2017, was co-designed by Dr K & T Keditsu Foundation, Kohima and INFC, Mumbai. Dr K & T Keditsu Foundation is a registered public charitable trust in Nagaland with a mission to serve the rural and underprivileged areas of Northeast India.


The annual week long programme allows 8 female college students from Nagaland to travel to a partner college under Mumbai University for one week for academic & cultural exposure, and receives a return contingent of 8 female students from Mumbai. Since 2020, the SSEP is entirely designed, organised and sponsored by the Foundation with the objective to empower and educate women.
