Peren, July 23 (MExN): Sainik School Punglwa (SSP) successfully culminated the celebration of English Literary Week, which is one of its important annual co-curricular activities. The main objective of this week was to develop and refine the communication skills of the cadets. As part of the event various inter-house competitions in English Language were conducted for various classes.
A press release from the school stated that the competitions were conducted from July 18 to 22 under various categories such as Calligraphy for class VI, Poetry Recitation for class VII, Essay Writing for class VIII, Speech for class IX and Debate for classes X and XI. For lower classes competition was held class wise in Calligraphy and Poetry recitation. However, in Essay writing, speech and debate the cadets of six houses competed for the top spot.
The event culminated with a debate on the topic; ‘Social Media corrupts young minds’. The chief guest of the event was Group Captain Sanjay Gaekwad, Principal, Sainik School Punglwa.
After an enthralling competition, Japfu House emerged as the Champion of the Inter-House English Literary Competition 2016-17. The position obtained in the Inter House English Literary Week is also added to claim the most coveted Cock House Trophy given to the best house of the year. ‘For’ the motion, Cdt Tekapong Longkumer of Doyang House and Cdt Talimayang Amer of Tizu House were adjudged first and second respectively while ‘Against’ the motion, Cdt Tokhou Humtsoe from Patkai House and Cdt Tazo Gyati from Japfu House were adjudged first and second.
