Chümoukedima, January 27 (MExN): St Joseph University, Chümoukedima celebrated its 10th Foundation Day at the University Auditorium on January 24. 

The programme, moderated by Dr Moameren Pongen, Assistant Professor of Department of Political Science, and Betina Vashi, Assistant Professor in Department of English, began with ceremonial lamp lighting. Faculty members, students, and the university management gathered to honour the legacy of the founder Rev Fr Dr J E Arul Raj and the progress made over the years.

Dr Pramodini Magh, Associate Professor and Head of Social Work Department, delivered the welcome address. She highlighted the significance of Foundation Day, underscoring the pivotal role the university has played in shaping the educational landscape of the region.

The programme featured a variety of performances showcasing the talents of the university’s students and faculty. Verieno & Co presented a special musical number, followed by a captivating group dance. Abeto Sumi, a student from the MA Political Science programme, showcased his skills with an impressive beatboxing performance. The Department of Social Work performed a traditional Bamboo Dance, and a song by Inotoli Yepthomi and her group.

A special address by Prof Charles Mhonthung Ezung reflected on the humble beginnings of the university. He recalled how, in 2017, the university began with just one floor of a building and has since made tremendous progress.

Dr D Gnanadurai, Vice Chancellor of St Joseph University, delivered the keynote address, acknowledging with gratitude the founder, Rev Fr Dr JE Arul Raj, DMI & MMI family, as well as the tireless efforts of both teaching and non-teaching staff. 

The event concluded with vote of thanks from Dr Besü Kholi, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Sociology.
