St Joseph University holds 6th convocation in Chümoukedima

Chümoukedima, February 27 (MExN): St. Joseph University held its 6th Convocation Ceremony at its campus in Chümoukedima on February 27 marking a significant academic milestone for 1,059 graduates across undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

A total of 657 students graduated from undergraduate courses, 399 from postgraduate programmes, and three scholars were conferred PhD degrees across 20 disciplines. During the ceremony, 38 graduands were awarded gold medals, while 34 received silver medals in recognition of their academic excellence.

The programme was graced by Justice Songkhupchung Serto, Chairman of the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission, as the Special Guest.

The event commenced with the Academic Procession and the National Anthem. Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Arockia Nathan, Rector, MMI Study House, delivered the invocation. The convocation was formally declared open by Dr. D. Gnanadurai, Vice Chancellor of the University. The welcome address was pronounced by Rev. Sr. Dr. Thaines Mary DMI, Deputy Registrar, while the University report was presented by Dr. A. Robert Xavier, Registrar.

In his convocation address, Justice Serto acknowledged the role of teachers as guiding lights in shaping the future of students. Quoting Mother Teresa, he emphasised the importance of nurturing independence among students and encouraging them to forge their own paths with integrity and purpose.

The Chancellor, along with the Special Guest, conferred degrees upon the graduands. The ceremony included the administration of the pledge and a message encouraging continued academic and ethical excellence. The University choir presented a special song in honour of the graduates.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Prof. Charles Mhonthung Ezung, Dean of Student Affairs. The ceremony concluded with the University anthem.
