St. Joseph University Holds Inaugural Function for Bachelor of Physical Education Program

Chumukedima, July 10 (MExN): St Joseph University (SJU) celebrated the inauguration of its Bachelor of Physical Education (BPES) programme and the induction of new undergraduate students on July 10. 

The ceremony began with an invocation prayer by Rev Fr Arokia Sezhian, followed by a welcome address from Dr. A. Robert Xavier, the Registrar of SJU. The Music Club presented a cultural song, and the JMC Department screened a university documentary.

Dr. D. Gnanadurai, the Vice-Chancellor of SJU, delivered the Presidential Address. In his speech, he underscored the university's mission to provide need-based and quality education to its students.

Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima and Pro-Chancellor of SJU, delivered the keynote address. He emphasized, "The students of today will bring transformation and change, building a society rooted in Christian values."

The event's Special Guest, Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and General Secretary of the Nagaland Olympic Association, highlighted SJU's pioneering role in offering the BPES program. "SJU is the first university in Nagaland to incorporate Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports," he noted. Metha expressed optimism about the program's future impact, saying, "This new venture will write many stories for generations to come."

Metha also praised the location of the university, remarking, "Students are fortunate as Chumukedima is one of the fastest developing districts in Nagaland." He encouraged students to remain committed, adding, "Success will come to you as long as you are committed."

The programme was led by Betina Vashi, Assistant Professor in the Department of English. It concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof. Charles Mhonthung Ezung, Dean of Student Affairs, and a benediction by Rev. Sr. Thianes Mary DMI, Deputy Registrar.
