St. Joseph’s College (A) Jakhama hosts State Level Mathematics Quiz Competition

Participants of the 4th All Nagaland State Level Mathematics Quiz Competition held at SJC (A) Jakhama on November 8.

Kohima, November 9 (MExN): The department of Mathematics, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, in collaboration with the Commission for Education, Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK), successfully organized the 4th  All Nagaland State Level Mathematics Quiz Competition on November 8 under the theme “Equations of Excellence: Igniting Minds, Shaping Future.”

The event was attended by 21 schools from various districts of Nagaland, including Kohima, Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Phek, and Mokokchung, while a total of 42 students participated in the competition, showcasing remarkable enthusiasm, teamwork, and mathematical aptitude.

The programme was graced by Teisovi Gerard Meyase, assistant professor & COE, Kohima Science College Jotsoma, as the Guest Speaker.

In his address, Meyase stated that mathematics is not merely about numbers, symbols, and formulas, but it was a way of seeing the world. 

‘The pattern of leaves, the rhythm of music, the symmetry of snowflakes, and the orbit of the planets are all written in the language of mathematics.’ Meyase stated.

Referring to the theme “Equations of Excellence”, he remarked that just like in mathematics, success in life depended on finding balance in relationships, sharing an inspiring formula for excellence: Excellence = (Curiosity × Consistency) + Integrity – Fear.

He also encouraged the department of Mathematics to continue with the initiatives stating that the initiatives truly mattered, and added that they were planting seeds of knowledge and inspiration in young minds.

After several rounds of rigorous competition, Wapongchiba Pongen and Supongnokden Imsong from Queen Mary Higher Second School, Mokokchung emerged as the champion, securing the first position who received a cash prize of ₹25,000.

Sarahya Ghosh and Felix P Anand from Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur  claimed the second position and was awarded ₹20,000,while Kvulo Bukh and Deo Dukru from Christ King Higher Secondary School, Kohima; SentinatoTsiidir and Rungkung Sabina Chothe from Little Flower Higher Secondary School,Kohima, and Khangembam Khrishnananda Singh and Jonathan Lemtur from Pilgrim Higher Secondary School, Dimapur,  received consolation prizes of ₹3,000 each for their commendable performances.
