Shamator, May 17 (MExN): St Xavier Higher Secondary School, Shamator, organised an orientation and motivational programme for students of Classes 10, 11 and 12 on May 16 with the objective of encouraging academic excellence from the beginning of the academic session.
The resource person, Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu, outlined key elements required for success in life and examinations, emphasising hard work, consistency and a strong grasp of concepts and subject content.
He urged students aspiring to excel in the NBSE HSLC and HSSLC examinations to dedicate five to six hours daily to studies.
To reinforce his message, Fr Toretkiu screened interview clips of previous toppers and highlighted that their common approach to success was encapsulated in the mantra “Believe and Achieve.”
Addressing the students, he encouraged those in Classes 10 and 12 to work with focus and determination, while advising Class 11 students to begin the academic year with seriousness and maintain consistency.
He also advocated the “3Rs” method — Read, Write and Recite — as an effective study strategy.
Stressing the importance of self-reliance, Fr Toretkiu encouraged students to develop the habit of preparing their own notes and to rely more on textbooks than teacher-dictated notes, stating that personal note-making enhances understanding and builds confidence.
He further advised students to seek God’s guidance in pursuing their dreams and aspirations.
Rev Fr Philip Magh of Loyola Higher Secondary School, Kiphire, and former principal of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, and Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, also addressed the students during the programme.
Drawing from his experience, he said topping the HSLC and HSSLC examinations required hard work and greater investment of time in studies.
Earlier, the programme began with introductory remarks and a welcome address by the principal of St Xavier Higher Secondary School, Rev Fr John Poji.
The motivational session concluded with a prayer of blessing for the students.
