Kohima, April 1 (MExN): St Xavier's Catholic Church Kidima under the Diocese of Kohima observed Holy Week from March 25 to April 1 at Kidima village. Traditional practices like triumphant, Last Supper with the Apostles, passion, way of the cross, Easter Vigil, Easter celebration were observed during the week, according to a press release.
On Easter Sunday, Sister A Salomi, Superior of Franciscan Sisters of Saint Mary of the Angels (FSMA) gave a sermon in which she explained the meaning of Easter that gives joy and hope. The Sister Superior cited the example of Mary Magdalene “who had no fear and took courage in darkness to the tomb.” Stating that Mary Magdalene was the messenger of the risen Lord, she asked the faithful to receive the grace of generosity, love and forgiveness and experience the grace in day to day life, the release said.
Reverend Father Thomas Muttathil, Parish Priest during the Last Supper of the Lord celebration on March 29 urged the faithful to be humble, serve and love one another. He reminded that Jesus preached forgiveness and forgave “our” sins. He explained the meaning of Eucharist, which is to love God and one another not for pride but as obedience to the Lord, the release said. The priest also noted that God made all people equal, but human made division/class.
On Good Friday, March 30, Father Muttathil reminded that Jesus, the saviour of the world, died on the cross for love. In the Easter Vigil, he said Christ “died for our sins and he is alive.”
Reverend Father C Joseph from St. Joseph College, Jakhama was the main celebrant on Palm Sunday, the triumphant of the Lord to Jerusalem, on March 25.
