Dimapur, September 5 (MExN): The Naga Hoho today appealed the people to stand together and strengthen the hands of the Negotiators for Naga Peace talks during this “defining Moment for the Naga people.”

The negotiators - both the NSCN/GPRN and the 7 NNPGs Working Group, inspite of all odds and hurdles, “have been ceaselessly working to bring it to a logical conclusion,” the Naga Hoho said in a statement.

“We earnestly believe that our negotiators will not fail the people and therefore, the Naga people must stand together and strengthen the hands of the Negotiators,” added the Naga Hoho in the statement, issued by its president HK Zhimomi and general secretary, K Elu Ndang.

The people cannot afford to miss the opportunity due to “divisions and differences” it noted, and urged for discarding “personnel interests, pride and ego” and march together in “unison and forge a strong united voice” to “realize our dreams and hopes.”

The Naga people struggle for Political Settlement has come a long way with “Blood and Tears” and through huge sacrifices, it said, giving the background to the issue.

“In the process, we have experienced the division amongst the Naga people and adverse consequences in all levels,” the Naga Hoho said, including “worst bloodbath in the history of the Nagas” in their own land “due to differences and disunity vis-à-vis fratricidal killings.”

Realising the negative effects of disunity, the Naga people came together and called for peace, unity and reconciliation, it added.

“Since then, the Naga Hoho has been working for the Unity and Solution to the protracted Indo-Naga political problem since its inception” and in line with the precedents, “we always harp on the unity and fraternity among the Nagas without borders,” it added.

In this regard, stating that alongside all other Naga civil societies, the Naga Hoho has been closely working for the Peace Process, the Naga Hoho made a clarion “call to all the political groups, civil societies, church leaders, all sections of the society, young and old to keep aside all differences and unite so that our posterity will not blame the present generation.”

Further maintaining that the Naga Hoho have stated time and again in the past that the Indo-Naga political settlement should be based on comprehensive and inclusive of all Naga political groups, it also acknowledged the keen initiatives of RN Ravi for bringing all other groups within the ambit of political negotiations.

It also extended is appreciation to the statement of N Kitovi Zhimomi, Ato Kilonser & Convenor of WC, NNPGs on August 14, 2019 who “put rest all baseless rumors of WC, NNPGs limiting itself to Nagas of Nagaland state.”
