‘The Starry Night’ a novel written by Nzan Kikon, a Counselling Psychologist was released on August 18 by Director of YouthNet, Lezo Putsure at Hotel Ura, Kohima.

The Starry Night is a work of fiction and the first novel to be published under the imprint of PenThrill Publication House. The 245-page novel records the life of the protagonist Ben who struggled to maintain a healthy relationship with his father. Despite the ensuing struggle, Ben's obsession with Van Gogh's painting keeps him occupied amidst the challenge of attempting to save his hurting family from falling apart. When a tragic event occurs in the family, Ben runs away from home but decides to return after seven long years only to discover the painful truth about his father.

Addressing the launch, Director of YouthNet, Lezo Putsure stated that writing and its implementation is the hardest challenge which requires intelligence, critical thinking, grammar. Putsure congratulated the author for his achieving adding that writing is an important and critical skill which many people do not have.

Observing that writing and reading is a culture that the world is losing, Putsure expressed the need to continue to support publication houses and writers. In this regard, he also lauded the PenThrill Publication for providing opportunities for the young people.

The author of the book, Nzan Kikon is a Counselling Psychologist by profession but considers himself 'a philosopher at heart and a scientist from the head'. He holds a Master’s degree in Divinity and currently lives in Kohima. In his spare time, Kikon engaged in blogging, contemplating on the depths of life and learning vocabularies. Kikon loves reading, looking up at the night sky and is a big believer in making the world a better place.

In her publisher’s note, Vishü Rita Krocha informed that Nzan gave her a manuscript on a devotional book but she told him that PenThrill was keener “on publishing creative works.”

“In less than a year, he surprised me by completing a fresh novel and I knew right then that here is a writer, who takes writing quite seriously,” she added.

Literature, I believe, is a stark reflection of any society. Without neglecting the simple joys and shared moments of happiness, Krocha observed that the author has creatively captured a painful reality, experienced by many homes and families across the state, if not beyond.

Stating that book has many life’s lessons, she hoped that the novel will reach out to many people and make meaningful impact.   Priced at Rs.300, 'The Starry Night' will be available at Crossword, ilandlo.com, Bible house, academic book house Kohima and OM Books in Dimapur.
