The press fraternity in Nagaland has a great reason to rejoice as the Commissioner & Secretary IPR today announced a cabinet decision for introduction of assistance scheme for accredited journalists in the State. Under the Nagaland Accredited Private Journalists Assistance (Operational Subsidy) Scheme 2007, which will come into force from the December 1, 2007, all accredited journalists of the State government who are not employed in government or public sector media organization shall be entitled to a monthly operational subsidy in the following manner. Journalists with not less than 2 years but less than five years of experience as accredited journalists will get Rs. 1000 per month. Journalists with more than five years and less than 8 years of experience will get Rs. 2000 per month. Journalists with more than 8 years of experience will be given Rs. 3000 per month.
The notification issued also stated that accreditation here means ‘with the Government of Nagaland’ and experience prescribed shall be reckoned as on Ist December, 2007. The Department of Information and Public Relations, shall be responsible for giving effect to this scheme.
