A five-day workshop aiming at integrating the State Curriculum Framework for School Education (SCF-SE) kicked off on March 24, bringing together participants from the Department of School Education (DoSE), Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), and District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs).

The workshop is being held in collaboration with Azim Premji University, which has been a key partner in providing academic, technical, and pedagogical support.

During the inaugural function held at SIEMAT hall, Kohima, Lima, Additional Director SCERT Nagaland  delivered the welcome address and emphasized the importance of the workshop in creating a comprehensive and cohesive curriculum framework aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Lima highlighted that the development of the SCF-SE in Nagaland has been an extensive process, initiated by the Ministry of Education's directive to all states in May 2021. The SCERT, serving as the Nodal Agency, coordinated the effort through a Steering Committee to ensure diverse perspectives were represented.

The framework’s foundation was laid through 25 Position Papers, developed by 25 Focus Groups comprising experts from various departments, including DoSE, SCERT, DIETs, NBSE, Nagaland University, the Department of Higher Education, the Department of Social Welfare, the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, and NGOs. These papers provided the theoretical and policy foundation for developing the curriculum, he stated.

Task Groups were subsequently formed to focus on specific areas such as Language Education, Science Education, Art Education, Aims and Curricular Areas, and School Culture and Processes. Azim Premji University’s contribution throughout this process has been instrumental, providing guidance and strengthening the overall framework, he said.

The current workshop aims to integrate all the sections developed by the Task Groups into a single, cohesive document. Ensuring consistency in language, structure, and vision while addressing the unique needs of Nagaland’s education system is the primary objective of this exercise, Lima explained.

He stated, “Our shared goal is to create a curriculum framework that will serve as a guiding document for shaping school education in Nagaland in alignment with NEP 2020.”

Lima further encouraged all participants to actively contribute and engage in meaningful discussions to ensure the robustness, inclusiveness, and transformative potential of the SCF-SE.

The workshop, which will continue till March 28, 2025, is expected to finalize a framework that will be a critical step toward implementing NEP 2020 in Nagaland.

The inaugural event was also attended by Deenbandhu Panda, Additional Director, DoSE, and Vikas Roy, Faculty, Azim Premji University.
