State Focus Paper 2017-18 for Nagaland launched

Kohima, April 10 (MExN): The State Focus Paper 2017-18 for the state of Nagaland was launched by Pankaj Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary to the Government of Nagaland at the State Credit Seminar held on April 7 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.

Other senior State Government functionaries included Temjen Toy, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary & Finance Commissioner, Imkonglemba Ao, IAS, Agriculture Production Commissioner and Lithronga G Chishi, Secretary, Cooperation Department. The seminar saw participation from senior level State Government officials of the Agriculture and Allied Sector Departments and Industries & Commerce Department, Representatives of RBI, SLBC, senior bankers of Commercial Banks, Nagaland State Cooperative Bank and Nagaland Rural Bank.  

A. Chakrabarty, General Manager NABARD presented an overview of the State Focus Paper and highlighted NABARD’s perceptions on the development of Nagaland.  In keeping with the GoI’s priorities and to highlight the importance to be accorded towards farmers’ income security, he said the theme of the State Focus Paper for 2017-18 is “Doubling of Farmers’ Income by 2022”.  

He presented the State Focus Paper for 2017-18 which proposes an increase of 7.37 % in the estimated credit potential to priority sector from Rs.109824.10 lakhs for the year 2016-17 to Rs.117917.13 lakhs for the year 2017-18. The potential for credit to agriculture and allied activities is estimated at Rs.63499.09 lakhs out of which, 62% is projected as potential towards long term investment in agriculture.  

Pankaj Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary while launching the State Focus Paper 2017-18 prepared by NABARD, expressed his appreciation to NABARD for preparing the State Focus Paper and organizing the Seminar where various stakeholders can come and deliberate on the credit potentials for the State. He conveyed the State Government’s initiative to involve Village Development Boards (VDBs) in improving ground level credit flow through cooperative institutions. He also expressed his concern that large area of the State still remained unbanked, mentioning that banking personnel have to be there in the ground for delivery of services and also requested the bankers to improve the credit flow under Priority Sector.  

Tiakala Ao, Deputy General Manager, NABARD made a power point presentation on the sectoral projections for the FY 2017-18 which was followed by discussions on sectoral issues and bankable projections for the financial year 2017-18.During the Seminar, a presentation on NABARD’s developmental interventions in Nagaland was made by Evan T Munsong, Manager, NABARD.
