THE GOVERNMENT of Nagaland has assured that adequate compensation would be paid to the families of the deceased IRB personnel as well as to the injured. “We had an emergency meeting this evening and discussed the issue. The State Government will provide adequate compensation to those killed as well as the injured.
They will be compensated as entitled in the services” Minister for Home Thenucho assured adding that the modalities involved towards disbursing the compensation was started as soon as the news of the incident was received.
He however did not disclose the amount of the compensation to be granted. “The State government is taking all possible steps to extend help to the victims and the families” he said while adding that more consultations were in the offing since it was a sensitive issue.
Meanwhile, leader of Opposition I Imkong, terming the killing of the Naga IRB personnel as ‘unfortunate’ said that although the Congress had initially protested to the deployment of the IRB to Chattisgarh, they should not be recalled “just because a few of our boys were killed”.
Conveying his condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased and injured personnel, Imkong said “while our Naga boys should come back victorious and not in defeat, they should not be recalled or withdrawn”.
“We are saddened by the deaths. We are proud of their achievement but we hope that there won’t be any more casualties” he said.
The opposition leader however cautioned against too much publicity on the matter. “We are not going to make any political mileage out of it. When our boys killed some Naxalites sometime back there was much accolades and publicity but I was a bit apprehensive. Let’s hope no more of our boys suffers any more” he said.
Imkong also appealed to the Naga IRB in Chattisgarh not to feel vindictive towards the local populace due to such incidences. “We appeal to them not to be vindictive towards the local people and instead fulfill their purpose and return in victory and not in defeat” added.
