State government urged to prevent highway robberies

Dimapur, November 10 (MExN): Squarely holding the state government responsible for the spurt in highway robberies in the recent weeks, the United Sangtam Likhum Bumji has urged the state government to act ‘or the appeal will turn into confrontation.’

Mentioning the looting of passengers last week at Lanye and Losami areas, the USSLB in a note asserted that the ‘negligence’ of the state machinery has only encouraged the anti-social activity. “This sort of looting has become a habitual practice of the miscreants due to negligence of the state government machinery” the USLB lamented. Further the “uncivilized activities” in the said areas have caused even government officials and staff posted in Kiphire to abstain from their duties due to the insecurity in traveling. Students have been compelled to drop their studies since their parents’ hard-earned money has been robbed, the organization stated.

The government is urged to either provide security in the area or find a solution, through public or village forums, to stop the menace. “If this practice of looting is not controlled by the state government the appeal will turn into confrontation with the state government due to lack of protection of life and properties of its citizens..” it warned.
