Meluri, October 17 (MExN): The Pochury Hoho on Monday underscored the hardships faced by the rural folk of Meluri Sub-Division, in the absence of an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC).
In a press release, Pochury Hoho, President, Chonpa Jurry and Information and Publicity Secretary Sathosie Nyuwi stated that the post has remained without a reliever after the incumbent ADC was transferred on deputation on August 4, 2022. A memorandum in this regard was submitted to the Chief Secretary, Government of Nagaland on August 22, it said.
However, it stated that even after two and a half months, Meluri Sub-Division is functioning without a competent authority, that is, an ADC by designation, and the office has been manned by EACs of Lephory and Phor circles.
According to the Pochury Hoho, rural folk have been particularly affected by the lack of an ADC in Meluri headquarter. “After travelling hundreds of kilometers from their respective villages to Meluri HQ, they are bound to undertake an additional 66km to District HQ Phek, which is also void of proper transportation (Sic),” it stated.
It said that Meluri, apart from being one of the biggest administrative circles in the area, shares an interstate border with Manipur in the south and an international boundary with Myanmar in the east. Besides topography, development works such as road construction of the 2-lane National Highway 202 is underway, it pointed out. Taking into consideration the immense hardships and grievances, the Pochury Hoho appealed for immediate reinstation of the ADC at Meluri Sub-Division for better administration of the circle.
