State Govt’s response ‘holds no water’: NPF-LP

Kohima, July 4 (MExN): The NPF Legislature Party (NPF-LP) has said that the State Government’s response to Governor RN Ravi’s letter “holds no water,” and claimed that “the common man in the market is better versed with the reality than the State Government.”

In a statement dated July 3, the NPF-LP alleged that the ‘unsavoury’ response of the State Government “nothing but an assorted collection of distorted facts and figures to deceive the Governor and the Naga people at large.”

Stating that many ‘anti-social elements’ continue to threaten business establishments especially in Dimapur on a daily basis, the party stated that the common man in the market is ‘better versed’ with the reality than the State Government.

“Many such incidents go unreported due to the lack of trust in Government machineries. Such elements have taken maximum advantage and at times maligned the image of the Naga National Movement,” it added.

Further, the NPF-LP said that the Governor’s written observation “cannot be merely dubbed as a study that ‘does not appear to be factual.’”

“Terming the findings of a man of such calibre by the State Government as one that ‘does not appear to be factual’ and further humiliating him in public domain by exposing the same in the state, regional and national media is most disappointing,” it stated.

This is display of political shrewdness of the cheapest standard, it said.

The party further alleged that there is steady down-slide in all parameters of development in Nagaland under the present day Government “due to siphoning off huge amount of Government funds meant for road connectivity, healthcare, education infrastructures etc. and diverting them to various non-functional projects.”

The economic condition of the State is in a pathetic condition which is almost beyond recovery unless drastic measures are taken such as the present intervention by the Governor, it claimed.

It also claimed that the financial position of the state is kept “hushed up for reasons best known to those at the helm of power” stating that “the Government has refused to disclose the actual financial position of the State” except for ‘distorted facts and figures.’

On the ongoing road projects in the state, NPF-LP said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed on the direction of the Governor to prevent unlawful activities and to book miscreants obstructing the construction work of Dimapur-Kohima four-lane road following a review meeting held on January 11, 2020; “is yet to come up with any tangible result till date.”

It claimed that the ‘laid-back attitude’ of the State Government is evident in the way it is dealing with the Public Action Committee (PAC) which had served an ultimatum on the State Government to initiate an ‘anti-crime act’ similar to the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) or the Goonda Act to control organised crime before July 31.

“The present day Government is in deep hibernation and has paid the least regard for PAC and other Civil Societies who have come out to address grievances of the general public,” it said.

The NPF-LP further censured the state government for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, claiming that it portrayed “incompetency and negligence,” especially in the case of Tuensang and Peren district.

“The genuine demands of the Eastern Naga People Organisation (ENPO) and the Zeliangrong Students Union, Nagaland (ZSUN) have not found its way to any logical conclusion till today,” it added.

It meanwhile alleged ‘nepotism’ in the State Cabinet’s now revoked decision to regularize the post of 27 GDMOs and also claimed that the COVID cess on diesel and petrol has added to the ‘over-all burden’ of the general public.

As such, the NPF-LP claimed that the present day government’s ‘raison d'être’ (reason or justification for existence) “is not for the welfare of its citizens as it ought to be.” In any case, the autocratic functioning of the State Government since the past more than 2 years speaks for itself, it claimed.
