A two-week long State Handloom Expo 2025 (Hathkargha Mela) under Aatmnirbhar Bharat Utsav organized by Nagaland Apex Weavers & Artisans Cooperative Federation (WEAFED) Ltd Dimapur and sponsored by Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi, commenced today at Gorkha Public Panchayat Hall, Chandmari, Kohima. The Hathkargha Mela (SHE) with the theme “My handloom my Pride” will continue till March 11.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Rokovisa Chase, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS), Govt of Nagaland, encouraged the weavers and artisans to maintain the quality of the products.

Despite lack of market linkages, Nagaland has a good number of weavers, he said, adding that government has been emphasizing and streamlining the market linkages sectors.

The central government is focusing on local production and promoting on global platform, he said. Chase also highlighted Weavers Mudra Scheme and Handloom Marketing Assistance (HMA) scheme that provide to develop and promote marketing channels in domestic and export markets and to build linkages between the two in a holistic and integrated manner.

WEAFED Ltd managing director Gwaruno Khing informed that the main objective of the Expo was to provide a platform to the weavers and artisans to exhibit and sell their products.

Altogether, 60 stalls have registered for the ongoing Expo in Kohima, he said.
