State Handloom Expo underway at Kohima Village Ground

State Handloom Expo (SHE), an initiative of the Nagaland Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., a Government of Nagaland Undertaking is underway here at the Kohima Village Ground, near Don Bosco School, Kohima. The State Handloom Expo Hathkargha Mela under Aatmnirbhar Bharat Utsav scheduled to be held from March 5-18, 2024 was formally inaugurated today by Kekhrievor Kevichusa, Commissioner and Secretary for Industries and Commerce.  

Inaugurating the Expo, Kevichusa told The Morung Express that it is time to take the corporation in a new direction by not just doing their routine thing but also be more involved in production and also promoting new skills and technology. “I would like them to start adopting villages and districts also for certain programs,” he highlighted.

In the meantime, he exuded hope that the corporation will also start shining and carry its weight because there has been a lot of government support in terms of salaries and they have to start giving back also. “We are trying to ensure that they get the best available talent so hopefully things will start looking better”, he added. It may be noted here that every participant receives an allowance of Rs. 13000 besides other facilities and whatever is sold at the Expo will be with the individual entrepreneur.

General Manager of Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, S Meren Ao said that the motive behind the Expo is to promote artisans, as well as to promote their products and exchange ideas.

Mention may be made here that the Expo is being sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi. 

Altogether, a total of 60 stalls are participating in the Expo including 40 from the state and 20 from outside the state.
