‘State has immense potential in food processing’

Dimapur, March 31 (MExN): Realising the immense potential of agro- based food processing industry in the state, the Khadi and Village Industry Commission (KVIC) has been promoting entrepreneurs through awareness camps, skill development and financial assistance. “Nagaland has immense scope in food processing,” Deputy Director KVIC, Rualkhami said in the sidelines of an awareness camp in Dimapur today.  She said that raw materials are readily available, thereby, food processing can be a good business venture for people. Apart from agro-based and food processing, she added that KVIC also provides training in beekeeping, she said.  
The awareness camp organised at the Nagaland Industrial Development Centre was attended by nearly 50 participants including self help groups. Amenla Saku, Vice President of United Women Welfare Organisation, an NGO based in Dimapur was the resource person. She conducted practical class on pickle making (tomato, chili and brinjal) and preservation. The participants were also briefed on the various schemes being implemented through KVIC.
The main objective of the camp is to promote agro-based and food processing industry and financially empower women by imparting skills. There will be a skill development programme after the camp, KVIC officials informed. Apart from providing training, KVIC will also support any interested person who wishes to venture into food processing business. KVIC will help them procure loans and send to various exhibitions. The awareness camp is an annual programme sponsored by KVIC Mumbai.
