Kohima, July 10 (DIPR): Home Minister Imkong Imchen today said that a total of 75,807 Inner Line Permit (ILPs) were issued in 2008-09 from various issuing centres in the districts, Commissioner’s offices and Nagaland Houses at New Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata and Shillong. The total amount collected was Rs.20,24,690. Disclosing this on the floor of the NLA at its fourth session in reply to a query by MLA H Chuba, Imkong Imchen said that the number of ILPs issued in 2007-08 was 76,268 with total amount collected at Rs.21,57,345.
The revenue collected in the districts includes that of ILPs issued and renewals. Expressing his concern, MLA Chuba said that the state has no mechanism to check if people coming in through ILP ever leave the state or not, adding that the state faces the problem of illegal immigrants. This was endorsed by MLA I Imkong who urged the government to take note of the menace of illegal immigrants.
Home Minister Imkong Imchen assured the House that the government is well aware of the problem of illegal immigrants and has constituted a committee to look into the issue. He also said that Dimapur has the highest number of non-ILP holders and stressed on the need to strengthen the administration setup to check illegal immigrants.
