State-Level Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav observed in Kohima

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 11 (MExN): The State Level Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2024, themed "Unity through Languages," was celebrated at Morung Hall, Directorate of School Education, Kohima, on December 11.

Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, MLA and Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Nagaland, served as the Special Guest. In his address, Dr. Yhome emphasized the importance of language in shaping one's identity and culture, urging the audience to actively promote and preserve their rich linguistic heritage rather than allowing indigenous languages to face the risk of extinction.

During the festival, Dr. Mimi Kevichusa Ezung, Associate Professor of Tenyidie at Nagaland University, presented a note on Language Development in Nagaland. Dr. Ezung highlighted the need for Tribal Literature Boards to take more initiative in documenting oral traditions, folklore, and stories, ensuring the survival of indigenous languages and cultures for future generations.

Thavaseelan K, IAS, Principal Director of DOSE, who chaired the event, noted that the Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav is a week-long celebration aimed at fostering awareness about the diversity of Indian languages and promoting cultural unity and harmony among the people of India.

The event included a rendition of the National Anthem by Dr. N.K GHSS Seikhazou. Additionally, Grace Sote, PM Shri GHS, New Market, Kohima, shared a Life Sketch of C. Subramanian Bharati. Poetry recitations were presented by T. Toihon Konyak in Konyak, Rungshetom Yimkhiung in Yimkhiung, and T. M GHSS in Tenyidie. Cultural performances were showcased by GHSS, Jotsoma.
