Kohima, August 27 (DIPR): The Government of Nagaland has adopted a policy on Community Empowerment by its Communitisation Act. The policy initiated by the then Chief Secretary of Nagaland R.S. Pandey (IAS) was formalised into an Act, and is now under implementation in the State. The model of the policy is highly appreciated by the Government of India and was even acknowledged by the United Nations Organisation (UNO) by awarding the State Government for the same. The Communitisation Act covered activities and development programmes that relate to community welfare and utilisation, such as Power, Water, Health and Education.
The Departments concerned have trained village and community level functionaries have published and distributed booklets/pamphlets on guidelines. Recently a book on ‘Communitisation of Elementary School Education’ was also published and made available in bookstalls, by Zavise Rume, Project Co-ordinator, Adolescence Education Cell, NCERT, Nagaland. The success rates of any policy depend on the awareness level over the implementation process by the beneficiary.
