DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 28 (MExN): The Department of Power has allayed the apprehension of the public in connection with the transportation of the 25 MVA 132/66 KV transformer from Mokokchung to Dimapur. Additional Chief Engineer, K. Miachieo explained in a press release that the single 25 MVA transformer presently in circuit at Aolichen is enough to cater to the load requirement of Mokokchung Electrical Division.
“In order to meet the normal load growth in Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon, Longleng and Zunheboto districts and also to facilitate load requirement for the Nagaland Pulp & Paper Co. Ltd (NPPC Ltd) under revival, the Department had proposed up-gradation of Aolichen Sub-station from 2x12.5 to 2x25 MVA 132/66 kV along with Renovation & Modernisation of equipments during 2009,” stated Miachieo in the release.
Work is almost complete and one of the 25 MVA transformer is already in circuit. Since the transformer is able to cater to the load requirement of the aforementioned four districts and the requirement at NPPC Ltd. not immediate, the department decided to withhold the commissioning of the second transformer.
Meanwhile, one of the 20 MVA transformers at Dimapur broke down on July 24 sending Dimapur into a power crisis, the release stated. “In spite of the best efforts of the Department making alternative arrangements feeding Dimapur load center from Kohima sub-station at 33 KV by imposing load shedding in the State Capital Kohima and also arranging additional power from Assam at 66 kv to mitigate the problem, the crisis could not be resolved thus leaving with no option but resort to 12-14 hrs load shedding. This has, besides affecting economic activities of the state caused lot of hardship to the consumers.”
Mokokchung load centre with a maximum demand of 19 megawatts (MW), the department decided to transport the second 25 MVA 132/66 kv transformer lying un-commissioned at Aolichen Sub-Station, Mokokchung to Dimapur as a temporary measure, the release said. This 25 MVA transformer would be restored to Aolichen sub-station once the 100 MVA 132/66 kv transformer is commissioned at SLDC, Dimapur. The 100 MVA transformer is likely to be commissioner by the end December 2012, added the release.
It went on to explain that it is the common practice of the department to restore supply by replacing damaged transformers from places wherever available irrespective of districts of divisions. “Therefore, the action of the department as above is not an isolated case but a conscious response to the crisis. Department of power, therefore, appeal to all concerned not to misconstrue the action of the department as an act of deprivation of some districts but cooperate with the department for better service.”
The release further made a clarification with regard to a media report which appeared in May 18, 2012 under the headline, ‘Centre urged to hold high level meet between PM-ENPO. It was mentioned in the report that the entire power generated by the 24 MW Likimro HEP is supplied to the Ao inhabited Mokokchung district. The department while stating that the statement is not true, said, “(the) 24 MW Likimro HEP generates 4 MW during lean season and 24 MW during the monsoon. The plant is designed for operation in synchronized mode, as such power so generated is injected to the state grid at Kiphire sub-station which is then transmitted and distributed throughout the state.
