Kohima, January 14 (MExN): State level workshop on Polio was held at conference hall, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare on January 14. All DIOs from the 11 district attended the workshop. It was held on special focus for NID (National Immunization Day) which is due to be held on February 3, stated a press release received here.
Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru, Mission Director NHM gave welcome and keynote address. In his speech, he advocated the DIOs to work more diligently and unceasingly and motivated them to work harder for the welfare and goodwill of the people as they did during the MRVC.
Dr. Sheila, SMO WHO-India gave presentations on ‘Update on APF & Measles surveillance Nagaland’, ‘Current status of Polio Eradication, risks to eradication and actions to sustain polio free status’, ‘Guidelines for planning and implementation of NIDs (booth, h-t-h, transit sites & special areas activity’ and ‘Risk Mitigation strategies; Status of tagging of HRAs (High Risk Areas) for Routine Immunization.
Dr. Atoshe Sema chaired the programme and the open discussion on formats for planning and implementation, issues of coordination between implementing partners and districts and planning for district workshops and timeline were also discussed.
It is worth mentioning that NID (National Immunization Day) are mass campaign during which supplement doses of oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) are given to children in a country to interrupt the transmission of wild poliovirus.
