State Task Force meets for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

Kohima, September 13 (MExN): The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) State Task Force meeting was held on September 7 at Conference Hall of the Chief Secretary. Chief Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Pankaj Kumar, IAS, chaired the programme.  

A press note stated that brief introduction on BBBP-Nagaland Chapter which started last year, was given by Dellirose M. Sakhrie (IAS), Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, who also informed that because of the reporting format, it requires a lot of data and information from the converging departments. She stated that convergence from the Ministry level is seen. She further raised the issue of Mother and Child Protection Card (MCPC) which is issued both by Health & Family Welfare Department (ASHA), as well as Social Welfare Department (Anganwadi).  

An overview of Village Convergence and Facilitation Services (VCFS) was given by Daisy Mezhur, Mission Director, SRCW which was followed by power point presentations from: State level BBBP activities since its inception by R. Juliana Medom, SRCW: District level BBBP activities by Zhoi Lohe, EAC HQ, Longleng and VCFS activities - a brief presentation on the recently concluded Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) carried out in Longleng district was given by Vekhwusalu Dawhuo, SRCW.   Status of PCPNDT Act with special focus on Gender Critical District Longleng was given by Dr. Kevingulie Solo, Jt. Director, Department of Health & Family Welfare. He said Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994 (prohibition of sex-selection) covers the whole of India except Jammu & Kashmir, as a Supreme Court directive to the Centre to implement in all its aspects. The Act was introduced in Nagaland in 2002. As per PC&PNDT (Amended) Act 2003 (14/2) ultrasound machine is brought under the Act where not only registration but maintaining of records is required. The State has 49 registered ultrasound centres with two new registrations done in 2015 and four more in 2016.   Status of girls enrolled in Nagaland during 2015-16 was given by FP Solo, Commissioner & Secretary, School Education. As per enrolment of Unified-District Information System for Education (UDISE) data of 2015-16, girls in general in Nagaland from primary till upper primary classes, are more compared to boys. He was of the view that girls were not far behind as per the UDISE data.   Status on implementation of POCSO Act in Nagaland was given by Joshua Sheqi, Legal Aid Counsel-Cum-Trainer. The State Action Plan and District Action Plan were put forward and finalized.
