Statewide mass social work culminates

Kohima, October 2 (MExN): The Statewide mass social work culmination programme was held on October 2 at DC Office Conference Hall, Kohima in the presence of Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, Advisor for Rural Development.  

A DIPR report stated that Dr Kire congratulated the administration and Kohima Panchayat members for the success of the mass social work in the district. He also asked them to cooperate and team up for the upcoming social projects for the benefit of Kohima.  

Encouraging the colony Panchayat leaders present, the legislator asked them to be bold in making the rules deemed fit for their respective colonies as they were already empowered and authorized by the colony people when they were selected to represent and become the voice and actions of the colony.  

He appealed the colony leaders to check and stop illegal construction of buildings by demarcating public places, especially drainage system. He also stressed on the unethical discharge of septic tanks by the citizens by adding that the colony Panchayat can curb this uncivilized action by checking and prohibiting the septic tank outlets to be channeled to the drainage systems. He also requested the district administration to check the illegal dumping of construction materials and leaving it unattended in the road side causing nuisance to public as well as the traffic in the capital.  

During the award ceremony for best performing colony and department during the mass social work, D-block colony bagged the first place followed by upper Jail colony and Naga Bazar colony respectively.  

The best performing department went to Home guards & Civil Defence followed by executive engineer, R&B, south division Kohima and Treasury Office, North Kohima. All the winners were awarded cash prizes and a citation from the district administration.  

Earlier, the programme was chaired by I Changsang, EAC (Dev) and Rajesh Soundaranjan IAS, DC Kohima gave a brief report on the 3 day mass social work conducted in the district. Vote of thanks was delivered by Daniel Angami, EAC (Revenue). Short speeches were also delivered by Kovi Meyase, administrator, KMC and Vekhosa Chakhesang NPS, Kohima Superintendent of Police.
