Deputy chief minister Y. Patton who also holds PWD (Roads & Bridges) portfolio today said that PWD (Roads & Bridges) undertook the foothill connectivity work from Tizit to Dimapur.

Replying this to a starred question raised by  MLA Imkong L. Imchen, Patton said that the work was approved during 2013-14 under Special Plan Assistance (SPA), adding that work for formation cutting works in those stretches of road where there was not road (missing link) started during 2013-14.

The total estimated cost stands Rs.235.00 crore.

Patton said that the formation cutting works were completed while the remaining pavement works are not started yet.
The deputy chief minister said that payment amounting to Rs.40.00 crore was made during 2013-14 and another Rs. 27.00 core during 2014-15.

On being asked the latest status of the road, Patton informed that after taking up the works with the initial releases, further funding under SPA was discontinued from 2014-2015 onwards.

“Hence, cross drainages/ pavements/ bridges/ improvement works of existing stretches could not be taken up and thus the road is not pliable as of now,” he said.

Patton also added that Ao Baptist Arogo Mongdang (ABAM) had made contribution of Rs. 36, 56, 282 for the construction of this road.

On being asked under what circumstances they (ABAM) made such contribution for a public road, Patton replied that it was a supporting gesture for the construction of the road in view of the importance of having a road in the foothill areas within the boundaries of Nagaland.

On what chargeable Head of Account this contributed amount will be reflected and under which financial rules, Patton replied that it is under examination for decision.
