DIMAPUR, JANUARY 12 (MExN): A staunch regionalist and senior NPF leader Thenucho Tunyi has decided to part ways with the NPF party. Thenucho who is former Home Minister in the previous NPF government under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, made known his decision to quit the party in a letter addressed to party President Dr. Shurhozelie.
“The Government and the Regional leaders of today, in words and practice have deviated away from the regional ideologies and principles. I have also discussed with you on a number of occasions about my reservation regarding the style and functioning of the present NPF Government,” stated the letter from Thenucho.
Pointing out that the NPF party government has failed to uphold true Naga aspirations, Thenucho stated that very recently, the party had also ignored the role of the church on issues relating to the Indo-Naga political settlement.
The letter to the NPF President also mentioned that many of the party’s staunch supporters have been sidelined and ignored that they no longer have any voice either in the functioning of the party or in the government. “Owing to these differences, it is no longer possible for me to give my whole hearted support to the party policies and programmes”, stated Thenucho.
The letter from Thenucho has also expressed gratitude to Dr. Shürhozelie. “I am grateful to you and consider myself fortunate to have been closely associated with you for many years because of which I have learnt and gained invaluable experiences”. Thenucho also sought apology for any hurt caused during the course of their interactions and sharing of views or opinion as party leaders
Thenucho further stated that in his political career particularly during the last 3(three) decades, he had learnt much about regional philosophies and ideologies from regional stalwarts like A. Kevichusa, T. Alilba, Tajen, Uncle Vizol, Vamuzo and Dr Shurhozelie. He stated that this had motivated and encouraged him to remain loyal and steadfast in the party for all these years.
“And I shall continue to follow these ideologies and principles”, Thenucho stated while adding that even though he was leaving the party, he will remain a staunch regionalist and will adhere to the core ideologies of regionalism.
The former Home Minister also hoped that many true regionalists and likeminded people will join him and together continue to maintain in words and deeds the legacy and ideologies of the oldest regional political party.
