‘Step up efforts to end global TB epidemic’

Stakeholders attend TB awareness prog in Zunheboto
Zunheboto, January 30 (MExN): The National TB Eradication Programme-NTEP and DAPCU, Zunheboto organised an awareness and sensitization programme at Suruhoto PHC, Zunheboto on January 30.
Dr Aron Murru, DTO Zunheboto in his address gave an awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. He shared about some facts about the early warnings and awareness for early detection. He elaborated about the signs and symptoms and about the Designated Microscopy Centre available in Zunheboto district.
Dr Aron said that TB is a major concern for people living with HIV (PLHIV) as their impaired immune systems make them particularly vulnerable to the disease. Providing the right care and support to PLHIV with TB co-infection remains a priority to reduce related morbidity and mortality. He encouraged about the responsibilities of every citizen to create awareness and call upon the governments, affected communities, health-care providers and NGOs.
Dr Aron emphasized that the accent on the urgency to act on the commitments made by global leaders to scale up access to prevention and treatment, build accountability promote an end to stigma and discrimination and to promote an equitable, rights-based and people-centered TB response. He further said, “to eradicate the TB disease, we should come together to learn about the TB and provide the community to get every knowledge about the TB.”
A press release issued by Shekho Sophie, District Media Officer, Chief Medical Officer Office, Zunheboto stated that free IEC materials were distributed during the programme which was attended by Church workers, other stakeholders, IEC bureau and medical fraternity.
