Dimapur, April 17 (MExN): In his individual capacity as a member of the Peace Committee (basing on Chairman Isak Chishi Swu’s peace proclamation), Education Kilonser of the NSCN (IM), Tongmeth Wangnao, has made a “humble appeal to the Naga brothers for peace and reconciliation so that an early solution to the protracted political problem is found.”
In a statement titled “Still Hope”, Tongmeth said, “Friends we must be more objective than subjective.” Placing the population of the Nagas to only two or three million, he reasoned, “Making peace is hard. It may take time, you and I may be called ‘coward’ ‘double minded’ ‘shameless’ etc. But however big is the war, however long the time it takes, but any war anywhere comes to an end only with peace”.
He stated that making wars can be very easy, however, he stated and added that the most foolish ones would want to prolong it thinking that he may win the war, however, Tongmeth reminded that warfare is just a way of ‘destroying ourselves.’
“On the other hand to make war is easy. Anyone can start it anytime, anywhere. Both first and second world wars started from killing one person. The most foolish would be the one who want to prolong it. He may think that he will win the war and gain out of it. Do we not realize that we are only destroying ourselves for the advantage of the people around?” stated Tongmeth.
In this regard, the statement read that on the eve of the “Crisis in March 1988, foreseeing the present situation I told my leaders not to take arms against brothers. But my request did not work for the reason best known to them”.
Tongmeth also stated that recently he wrote a letter to the Konyak Union authorities requesting them to pave the way for peace and reconciliation but that was made a laughing stock and exposed in the ,media by some people, stated the NSCN (IM) Kilonser.
