Stop preying on the public: NPCC

Kohima, September 24 (MExN): The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) in a meeting on September 24 lamented on the conditions and living standard in Nagaland.

The members present in the meeting expressed concerns over the “painful life that public traverse in Nagaland” caused by “dilapidated roads, internal disturbances, fear, corruption, backwardness and lawlessness in the state.”

A press release from the PAC pointed out the apathy of the Government of India (GoI), Nagaland State Government and the Naga National Workers as the public are “hunted as their prey for food (tax)” and pointed out the need to relieve the public immediately from such a plight.

The PAC also expressed the pain in the failure of the Central Government to provide relief to the state for destructions caused by natural fury in the state and wondered if the “Centre has trust deficit upon the state.” It meanwhile hoped that the little relief/donations received would be used properly.

While claiming that all these difficulties are a result of the “unreasonable delay in resolving the political problem,” the PAC however appreciated the GoI for hearing the call of the public for an inclusive talk. It asserted that the NPCC has always stood for negotiation and constitutional measures for solving the political problem and shunning violence.

It also expressed belief in the unity of the Nagas in finding a peaceful solution and stated that there is “little or no reason to divide.”

“This is because the cause is one, the objective is one, solution will be one and the future will be one and will continue to live together with our inherent culture, customs and social practices,” it added.

The Committee, the statement read, is “unanimous that public aspiration is for peace, freedom, development and opportunities” and this should be “the basis in finding political solution.”
