Our Correspondent Kohima | May 17   Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu, chairman Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (NSMDC Ltd) today inspected the storm hit areas under 11th Northern Angami II Assembly Constituency.   Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds damaged six houses in Chiechama and Phezha under Kohima district on Monday besides damaging electrical posts/power lines and uprooting trees along National Highway-2. Property loss in the unfortunate storm is yet to be assessed at the time of filling this report. Casualty if any has not been reported.

Dr. Keditsu expressed sympathy with the affected families and told them that Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) will be taken care of necessary relief measures after assessment is done. The two houses both belong to the same owner who runs a private hostel (St Stephen Hostel), adjacent to Don Bosco School, Sechü Zubza.   The roof top of the two houses was blown away by the strong wind. The incident happened just before the school’s classes got over. One of the houses is the dormitory of the hostellers. The warden recalled that “if the incident happened when the hostellers were inside the dormitory, it would have been more danger for them as the roof top was fully blown away.” Chiechama Meanwhile, Sechü Zubza Village Council chairman, Mhasikhotuo Zhünyü said, the villagers, as part of community service, voluntarily responded in reconstructing the damaged houses early Tuesday morning.   He cautioned the villagers to always stay alert and react positively in times of natural disaster, while he further advised them to cut those trees which are rooted very near to the electrical posts in an around the village area.
