Strength of the Government lies with people: Rio

Longkhum | June 8 : Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio has said that the strength of the DAN Government lies with the people and the government is running with an atmosphere of peace all around because of their support. Addressing a public function at Longkhum village, about 18 km from Mokokchung town after inaugurating two storied Longkhum Community Hall, Neiphiu Rio said since the DAN government enjoys the mandate of the people, his government keep on visiting villages in the state to see themselves the progress of development as well as to listen to the voice of the people and their needs.
He said his government would continue to give top priority to uplift rural economy. Keeping this mind he said, government has come up with a policy that allows chairman of Hohos in every district to attend District Planning & Development Board meetings with an idea to enable them to express their developmental needs in the highest DPDB meeting, Rio added. He also defended Road Show cum Festival saying this leads to promote government-people inter-face and strengthen identity of the Nagas.
Rio inaugurated the newly constructed Longkhum Village Community Hall here today in the presence of Home Minister Imkong L Imchen and a host of DAN Ministers, parliamentary secretary and MLAs. The Longkhum Village Community Hall was completed at the cost of Rs 88, 85,846 and it took eight years to complete. The construction commenced in the year 2003, however the lower portion of the building (down stairs) is yet to be completed. In this regard, the Chief Minister and his colleagues assured to collect Rs one lakh each and donate Rs 15 lakhs. Besides, Rio assured to donate Rs 15 lakhs from his own side.
Rio, who was the chief guest, while congratulating the Longkhum villagers for the successful completion of community hall, paid tribute to the rich history of Longkhum village which he termed as a legendary village that played a vital role in the Naga political movement. In this regard, he encouraged the villagers to keep the spirit alive and dedicate to the Naga political issue unitedly.
However, he urged the people to come up against individualism, partyism, tribalism, factionalism etc and come up with Nagaism. He also reiterated on the policies of NPF party and said that the NPF as a regional party gives importance to the people in the villages, since the party high command for a regional party lies in the villages only.
The guest of honour, Imkong L Imchen expressed deep happiness on the second visit of the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio within one month. Imchen said that this, by itself, shows the love and concern of the chief minister towards the people of Longkhum village. The Home Minister in his speech also urged upon the Chief Minister and his colleagues to look into the memorandum submitted by the village council saying the needs cited in the memorandum are genuine which needs immediate attention of the government
He also paid rich tribute to the Longkhum village which has produced renowned Naga leaders like Imkongmeren, first Vice president of the Naga National Council (NNC). He said that Longkhum is the cradle of Naga nationalism especially in the Ao country.  Congratulating the Longkhum villagers for the successful completion of the community hall, the Home Minister further urged the Longkhum villagers to use the hall as a place where justice can be delivered and where justice should take place.
Ministers Dr Ngangshi Ao, Dr Chumben Murry and Kaito Aye and Parliamentary Secretaries Yitachu, Y Patton and Deo Nukhu and MLAs Azheto Chopy, Toshipokba were present in the inaugural programme. Other top government officials were also present today.
The Village Council Chairman, Angang Jamir in his welcome address thanked Chief Minister for giving due importance to the people of Longkhum village. The Sentonia, a group of singers presented a special song, while the some men folk of Longkhum village presented a ‘Male voice”.  The chief minister visited the grave of Imkongmeren, NNC Vice President, and laid a wreath at the grave.
