‘Strengthening Horizons’: Chungtia gears up for 70th Ao Students’ Conference

The 70th Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) will be held from January 13 to 15 at Chungtia village, located about 15 km from Mokokchung town under the theme, ‘Strengthening Horizons’.

Addressing a press conference at Chungtia village on January 10, Chungtia Students’ Union (CSU) president Tsüknungtemsu said that the union and the village council have been preparing for the conference for the past nine years.

He informed that around 1,700 delegates have been invited and will be hosted by nearly 700 families of Chungtia village. A conference hall with a seating capacity of 2,200 has been constructed for the event. Transportation arrangements include the provision of seven buses for delegates, along with the issuance of car passes.

Also addressing the media, AKM president Lanutoshi Aier informed that Supongmeren Jamir, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) will attend as the inaugural guest, while Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio will be the chief guest. The closing guest will be T N Mannen, Advisor for Law & Justice and Land Revenue.

Other dignitaries and special invitees scheduled to attend the conference include Metsübo Jamir, Minister for Rural Development; Temjenmenba, Advisor and MLA for Transport and Technical Education; M Imkongla Jamir, Resident Commissioner, Government of Karnataka; and Limasunep Jamir, Special Secretary, Home.

The AKM president further informed that a panel discussion on the theme “Navigating Education, Politics, Media, Religion and Entrepreneurship in a Changing World” will be held during the conference. The panellists include Imkongnukla Ao, EAC, Longleng; Lanuwabang, Director, NIELIT, Kohima; K Temjen Jamir, Editor, Tir Yim Yim; and Rev Dr Wati Aier, Convenor, Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR).

He also mentioned that an Ao Spell Bee Competition will be organised with the aim of preserving the Ao language among younger generations. Further, a magazine featuring articles on various contemporary issues beneficial to student delegates will be released during the event.

The conference will be held on the theme Strengthening Horizons, focusing on broadening perspectives, reinforcing values and equipping youth to navigate a rapidly changing world, Aier stated. “All student delegates are requested to be mentally prepared to learn from one another and to participate in a positive and constructive manner throughout the conference,” he added.
