Stringent action against hoax calls, bomb threats at airports

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 30 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung has issued a notification based on directives from the Home Department, Government of Nagaland, regarding stringent actions against offenders involved in hoax calls or bomb threats at airports. The notice highlighted that such incidents are covered under the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982.

As per guidelines from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), hoax bomb threats are a serious concern, causing significant inconvenience to passengers, airlines, and security personnel. The notice emphasized that such actions are not only disruptive but also endanger airport safety.

The notification further pointed to Section 39(a) of the Act, which outlines that any individual who unlawfully and intentionally uses a device, substance, or weapon to commit an act of violence likely to cause serious harm or death, destroy aircraft, or damage airport facilities will face life imprisonment and be liable for a fine. Anyone attempting or abetting such acts will also be subject to the same punishment.
