Dimapur, November 26 (MExN): The 43rd Ao Students’ union Dimapur (AKTD) annual general meeting-cum-12th Excellency Award was held on November 26 at Sakus Mission College, Landmark colony under the theme ‘Sobaliba aser Terenlok (Culture and Progress).
Senti Ao, Secretary, DUDA was the theme speaker. Senti, in his address, said that while the Aos and the Nagas in general have strong traditions passed on orally, the emphasis on Western culture has led to the present generation neglecting cultural tradition. “If only we have not neglected the tradition practiced over several generations, our knowledge and wisdom would have progressed much ahead than the present scenario,” he said. Still, he asserted that it is not too late while challenging the youth to take the initiative to imbibe and revive the rich cultural tradition of the forefathers.
Remaining grounded to one’s root, he said, is very important for the progression of a society. The Aos as a community is grounded on virtues such as hardwork, honesty, thirst for knowledge, compassion and foresightedness and so the youth today should imbibe such traits and qualities, he added.
“Even though we have potentialities to excel, we do not strive to make it bigger and better. As a result we are not advancing.” According to him, converting the potentialities will not only help oneself but the entire community, which ultimately will aid Nagaland’s bid to advance.
11 Ao students, who excelled at the HSSLC and HSLC examinations of 2015 and 2016 were presented with cash and certificates at the event.
