Strong monsoon activity forecast in Nagaland

Dimapur, June 11 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on Thursday said that there will be strong monsoon activity from June 12 to 17.


It further informed that heavy monsoon rains can be expected almost daily, mostly in the night and early morning during this period. The second spell of the monsoon rain is also expected between June 21 to 30, which will last for 3 to 4 days, it added.


During this period, thunderstorm and lightning with heavy rains is expected in the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Peren, Phek, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon and Longleng. However, moderate showers will continue in the remaining parts of the State which is likely to become intense, the NSDMA said.


In view of the heavy rainfall expected during the monsoon period, NSDMA has urged the public to be vigilant and not to take shelter under large trees and near the river banks.


The public has also been advised to take necessary precautionary measures to prevent risk to life from lightning and flash flood.


The NSDMA has also requested all the DDMAs and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties during this period.
